A TO Z CHALLENGE APRIL 2017

I am taking part in the annual A to Z Challenge for the month of April.

My theme, after much debate, is a simple one – inspired by my children’s A to Z jigsaw, I’m planning to write a short story based on the pictured object for each letter of the alphabet. With a bit of luck all the stories will connect with each other in some way.

The jigsaw is pictured here to give a rundown of all the objects for each letter. The first story – A for Ant – will be published on Saturday 1st April, and after that each day, skipping Sundays.

For more information on the challenge, you can visit the website HERE. I hope you enjoy reading my efforts as much as I will enjoy taking part.

  1. Welcome aboard, Iain. You’ll do great with the challenge, and it truly is a challenge. I’m playing too — writing my own murder scene each day with a new weapon by letter. Like Wile E. Coyote, I keep bouncing back for more.

Come visit if you like (JohnDavisFrain.com). I’ll be back for your entries. You’ve got your work cut out for you, a short story a day will be tough! But your the man for it.

      2. That’s he tricky part. My advice is to keep it simple, don’t try to think of something too complicated.

  4. I wish I had the time but unfortunately, real life demands that I pay attention to it occasionally. Looking forward to reading your take on this though.

  6. That’s about as basic as you could get and that sounds pretty good to me. How fun to let your imagination flow using such a colorful prompt source. Have a great April Challenge!

  7. Aww great choice, using your old jigsaw. It’s adorable and simple 🙂 Looking forward to seeing your takes on the letters! I may join, but it depends on how challenging NaPoWriMo will be, it’s also in April.

  10. I look forward to reading your entries. I participated for the first time last year, but I’ve spent so much time sick these first three months that I completely let the notice and reminders slip past me. Oh well, there’s always next year. I’ll just have to enjoy what everyone else writes and find some new blogs to follow.

    1. Thanks Barb – it’s nice to just sit back and read instead of being caught up in the writing once in a while! Hope you enjoy my efforts.

  12. Hey Iain! Glad to see a familiar face. Two years ago I had a father-daughter team join with me to supply a photo prompt (daughter) and prompt phrase I used together to create flash fiction stories. Here is a sample link: https://fictionplayground.wordpress.com/2015/04/03/2015-a-to-z-c-fiction-from-the-letter-c-chicago-took-my/?iframe=true&theme_preview=true

I am trying the A to z for the third time with a 50% success rate. But, and it is a big one, I have approached this one a whole lot differently. Following my successful attempt at NaNoWriMo in November of 2016 my writing has taken a turn for much better. I will lay out the concept of the next novel I will write in November of this year.

The Steel Horse Saviors is a story about three civil war veterans who head west in 1866 with their Steam Locomotive to seek their fortune. They encounter a beautiful redhead trying desperately to save her family business.

    1. Hi Joe, good to see you. I like the idea of using the challenge as the basis for something more in the future, double the reward. I’m all set for my rookie attempt. Like you I think my daily fictions will combine to one story in the end, lots of thoughts at the.moment. Looking forward to getting started and reading your efforts too. Good luck! Iain
