GOOD AND BAD DO EXIST

Good and bad do exist, but rarely are they black and white.

The man was guilty of murder. Samson had no qualms about arresting him – the law was the law – but was he a bad man?

He had reacted the way most fathers would.

An abused child is a bad thing. One less pedophile in the world is a good thing.

Each week we are given a set word count for a piece of micro fiction, and a quote from a book that must be included in the story. This week’s quote to be included was ‘Good and bad do exist’ and the word count was 61.

  1. A nice little conundrum for the law makers here. I recall John Grisham’s ‘A Time to Kill’ which dealt with a similar story. End of the day, a crime is a crime even when it is justified. Laws should be impartial and emotionless, right? Good one, Iain.

    1. Thanks Varad – that’s the conundrum. The law is supposed to be black and white, but life so rarely is.

  2. That would probably work in Texas but I’m not sure about California or Massachusetts.

  7. Nice piece. Moral conundrum…though for me as a father an easy call to be honest

    1. Yep, I’m the same. Not enough words to really explore the conundrum properly here.

  8. Sadly good and bad exist and they are not just black and white, especially these days. Nicely worded in short story, Iain.
