Day Twenty-Two:

Today we climbed to the peak above our valley and staked our flag. We had an official ceremony with just original the founders of the New State of America.

Later we joined the others building the wall around our border. We don’t want to build barriers, but we have to do something to defend ourselves from the remaining United States of America. The President has vowed to shut down our secessionist movement. The military will arrive soon. It seems our dream may have to be born from the sort of war we strive to avoid.

We believe the cause is just and the fight is worthy.

Meanwhile we began creating our own Declaration of Independence. It’s not much different from the original one. It begins:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all people are created equal, that they are endowed with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

If only the old country had stuck to that basic principle, we wouldn’t be here now.
