MORNING ROUTINE

The sun came over the small village and the first signs of life began stirring.

Looking down she watched the same routine unfold as it always did.

A light came on at the Klein’s house – the children had risen too early again.

Lithe Jenny Wright appeared dressed in luminous jacket and running tights and set off along the coastal path.

Seabirds glided overhead, calm water lapped the shore.

Doctor Allison emerged next with old Lennox for their morning stroll.

The first car to join the dawn chorus was Mrs. Khan leaving for her commute to town.

Cycling along the lane, Warren arrived. Propping his bike against the usual lamppost he picked up his mail satchel and began his delivery round.

On cue the light came on at the local store as Mr. Hibbert rolled up the metal shutter.

The house she was interested in came to life. Out he walked – Larry Lynch, as he called himself now – with her children, bundling them into the car for the school run.

Only today there would be a change. They wouldn’t make it to school. She had other plans for him now that she had found him again.

  10. Great story, Iain. I really got into it. I liked how you introduced the different characters before the real story behind the idylic setting. The calm before the storm for “Larry Lynch”. I hope there’s a sequel ๐Ÿ™‚
