ON THE BEACH WITH SANDRA

This was not what he had in mind when Sandra invited him on a beach holiday.

He’d thought of golden sand and her golden hair; revealing swimwear barely concealing her tanned curves; frolicking in the sea…

Sandra rubbed her grimy, seaweed-covered hands on her dirty overalls and threw the trowel aside, her smile beaming.

‘Another one. I knew this coastline would be full of dinosaur fossils. Grab the tools.’

Another afternoon of back-aching excavating sprawled out in front of him.

At least there was still the hotel bed to look forward to.

His tired body needed the rest.

  6. Dear Iain,

Maybe it’s not the beach getaway he’d envisioned, but perhaps, it will become something deeper. At the very least, he’s spending time with her. Love where you went with this.

    Shalom,

    1. Thank you Rochelle, wasn’t wholly convinced about this one, ran out of words to fit in that he ends up preferring it/her this way – so went for a cheap gag last line instead!!

  24. Ahh, the thrill of an excavation! Did a lot of that in my youth, driven by sheer curiosity. Wish I’d kept all the ancient artifacts that I found. Alas, I was but a child. I played with them til they wore out or broke.
