DAYBREAK

The sun rose.

The world went on.

As if nothing had happened.

As if everything was as it should have been.

He found her in the nursery.

Staring out the window.

The sky was a fiery red.

It tinged her tears.

She gripped the unused blanket.

    1. Thank you so much, So grateful it managed to touch you. We were fortunate to not experience this, although we were close with premature twins, but they made it through in the end. Big hug.

      1. Thank you for the hug, so pleased you have your twins. My girls would be about 46 now and the first 48 but I still wonder. They were not to term but still a loss 💜 On a happy note I have three fine sons, 37, 45 and 46 and two grandsons 💜

    1. Thank you. We were fortunate to avoid this, although had a big scare along the way, so it is not difficult to imagine what might have been.

    1. Thank you Janet. It is a sad reminder of how precious and miraculous life is – and how we take it for granted so much of the time. So pleased you were able to have that joy, although I’m sure the heartache never entirely goes.

  8. So sad, Iain. Sometimes it seems unfair that the world keeps going.

  9. Oh, just a single word: “unused”, and we have the story. Good work.

  10. I think anybody who’s lost a loved one can relate to this. If humans had the ability to stop the dawn from breaking, I think we’d be trapped in an eternity of individual miseries. It’s a blessing that we can’t stop time, even though it feels like a curse.
