He stood like a statue, frozen on the spot.

He went back over all the decisions that had led him to this moment, raking through his memory for the answer that would not reveal itself through the fog.

He reached out but could not grasp the key information he had forgotten.

He tried to not think about it, that was a trick that sometimes worked.

Panic set in. What was it that he could not recall? He grew frustrated and annoyed. Why do our minds play these games with us?

His wife called up to him, what was taking him so long?

It was absurd but he could not come up with the answer, no matter how much he fought with his memory.
