EVOLUTION

IN THE APARTMENT

‘When did you last see your baby?’

‘I went into the kitchen to collect her food. When I came back, she and the chair were gone.’

‘You think someone stole the chair and kidnapped your child?’

‘I don’t know!’

‘Alright, Ma’am, keep calm.’

ON THE STREET

‘Dispatch, this is Officer 423. We’ve located the baby chair, abandoned on 8th and Greenacre. No sign of the kid.’

‘Copy that.’

ABOVE THE CITY

She landed on the rooftop, and took small, uncertain toddler steps. She looked down on the bustling metropolis. She was one of them, but her infant mind understood: she was also something more.

Oh fun! I certainly didn’t see that coming. The beginning of a longer story, perhaps?

  34. Great story. I’d be interested to see where it would go. Reminds me a bit of a scene from my favourite Superman comic run (2011 Action Comics by Grant Morrison) where a baby on Krypton sits on a ledge because even the babies on Krypton are too smart to jump or fall off…
