CLOUD SPOTTING

Agnes held the cloud spotting book up to the sky. ‘Cumulonimbus, I’m sure of it. What do you think?’

‘I see a dragon breathing fire.’

‘Very good, but I’m trying to spot the actual types of clouds. 10 points for a Cumulonimbus, quite a common one.’

Archie sighed. This was not the Hawaii vacation he had imagined. He pointed at another cloud. ‘That one’s a shapely woman in a swimsuit diving into the sea.’

Agnes snapped the book shut and slapped it against Archie’s head. ‘I can see where your imagination always ends up! Come on, we’ve got a tour of the lava rock museum at three.’

‘Yes, dear.’

  9. Oh my, time to “get lost” until the flight back to the mainland. No way I’d waste Hawaii with that abusive wet blanket.

  12. Chuckling… how you’ve captured a vacay with my beloved hubby. Points out cloud types, constellations, radio towers… wonder if he ever sees the sheer beauty. Great story,

  13. He better beware, after the lava rocks comes the hike up a volcano… I’d rather spend my time with her than with him although I love seeing pictures in the clouds, too.

  17. Nice gentle humour, Iain. Archie capitulates easily enough; I guess he knows which side his bread’s buttered! In view of his obvious desires, perhaps he should order a bottle of champagne at dinner. I’m sure that would soften Agnes’s heart.
