‘Authentic Chinese Cuisine’ screamed the signs for the tourists. Which struck her as odd since they were in Ho Chi Minh City and China was 2,000km north.
Still, it looked good. Pierce wasn’t convinced. ‘Hygiene standards!’ he puffed, wiping sweat from his brow with his handkerchief.
She remembered the debonair gentleman who had swept her away for an exotic tour of the Far East. Her Mr Darcy, her Heathcliff. A shame he had turned into her Charles Bovary when they had reached the humid Hong Kong air.
‘Tuck in,’ she smiled cheerily.
‘I’ll see you back at the hotel.’ Off he went, leaving her on her own.
Now, she thought, her adventure really begins.
