SOMETHING OR NOTHING?

‘I’m not going down there.’

‘It’s just a shed.’

‘An ominous shed and a strange thumping noise.’

‘What do you think is going to be down there? Be rational.’

‘You’ve seen horror films, right? Where you sit and say “they shouldn’t go into the dark cellar, why would they do that?”‘

‘This isn’t a film, it’s our shed at the bottom of the garden.’

‘You go. I’m staying right here.’

‘Suit yourself.’

Vanessa strode down the lawn. Sound disappeared. She slowed. She heard the thumping noise. An owl hooted. A wolf howled.

She reached the door and turned the handle. It creaked open.
