A TANGLED WEB

‘Oh, what a tangled web we weave
When first we practise to deceive!’

The quote from Walter Scott ran around his head. He was trapped in a web of his own making.

He had lied, deceived, obfuscated. All in an attempt to extricate himself from the situation.

There was only one way out: create more uncertainty, spin an even more entwined narrative, hide behind distraction and decoy.

He stood. ‘Thank you Mr. Speaker. If it pleases the House, I would like to present a Bill to dissolve Parliament and hold a General Election.’

He was met by a wall of uproar, some in support, some abusive. Papers were waved, schoolyard jeering aplenty.

He smiled. The spider lived to fight another day.
