SCARLET RED

Her scarlet red hair tumbled down her back as she released it, cascading over her pale, white skin.

He reached out and felt the smoothness of her, brushing the hair over her shoulder and tracing a line down her spine to the hollow above her buttocks.

‘After all this is over, we could escape together.’

He whispered the words in her ear, kissing her gently on her exposed neck and shoulder.

She shifted on the mattress, the sheet slipped down as she turned onto her back, exposing her pert breasts and pale pink nipples. Her walnut eyes stared at him.

‘Where would we go?’ she asked.

‘Somewhere remote, where we could be alone, just the two of us. The countryside, perhaps. A forest where we could find a natural river pool and spend all day naked in the water.’

He pictured her stark, white body standing out against the dark water, next to a waterfall cascading over rocks. Then later, lying together amongst the green foliage, basking in their natural surroundings.

‘Sounds heavenly,’ she said.

They kissed, their lips touching, then opening as their tongues entered their mouths. Tenderly they held each other, letting their bodies fit into each other.

The sun began to fall and the darkness arrived once more. The nightly bombardment would soon arrive to break the spell.

Tomorrow, he would leave for the frontline once more, and she would go back to the hospital.

Until they met again he would hold onto the memory of her cascading scarlet red hair.
