Milngavie Noir at the Bar: A Night of Scottish Crime Writing

Last night (October 29), some of the best crime writers in Scotland, and me, gathered with a sell out crowd of 60 readers at the Talbot Arms pub for the first ever Milngavie Noir at the Bar.

Organised by Daydreams Bookshop, each author read a short piece of their work, in between drinks, chat and bookselling and signing. Compered by Daniel ‘Vampire’ Sellers, the line up featured Caro Ramsay, Callum McSorley, Claire Wilson, Emma Christie, Alex Kane, Suzy Aspley, George Paterson, Inga Vesper and Sharon Bairden (with axe).

The standard of work was incredible, and needless to say there was a high body count, plenty of suspense and mystery – and unexpected themes of slugs and crabs.

As well as reconnecting with authors I had been at events with before, I got to meet authors I’ve been reading and following on social media and pick up a couple of signed books myself, and chat about all things crime and writing.

On the downside, I think I misjudged my own short story – too dark, noir, Halloween Horror – and amongst strong competition, don’t think a single one of my books sold all night, and I didn’t sign any! I’ll post the story here for Halloween and you can judge for yourself. Still, a great night, and hopefully they’ll invite me back to the next one… maybe.
