‘You want to go through the woods? Are you nuts?’
‘You think because it’s Halloween something bad will happen?’ Sam laughed and walked ahead.
Amy followed his torchlight. Clouds drifted across the sky blocking out the moonlight.
‘You never saw the Blair Witch Project?’ she shouted after Sam.
‘I did,’ he called back. ‘Terrible movie.’
A stick snapped. Amy jumped and shone her torch around. The trees made ominous shapes in the shadows she cast. When she looked back, Sam had disappeared.
‘Quit fooling around, Sam.’ There was no answer.
Idiot. If he wanted to spook her, she wasn’t going to hang around and play his game. ‘I’ll see you in school tomorrow.’ She carried on walking.
Behind a large tree stump, Sam tried to scream. The hand over his mouth stopped him. He felt the knife start to slit through the skin of his throat.
‘Funny,’ the voice whispered in his ear, ‘so much evil in the world already, why do we feel the need to invent witches and bogeymen?’

Oh man, good thing I don’t go walking in the woods at night!

I remember seeing the ads for “The Blair Witch Project” in the late 1990s but I never got around to seeing it. Yeah, the prompt just begs to have a tale of teenagers alone in the creepy woods who come to a bad end. That’s what I wrote, too.

Probably not worth seeing now – more a product of it’s time. The sequel was even worse, by a long way.

Spine chilling – more so because the victim is a kid.

Thanks Reena – always scary to have an ‘innocent’ as a victim.

There are scarier monsters amidst us. Nice little chill, Iain.

Yep, who needs witches and ghosts?

Really terrible when it comes to horror movies, so though I did watch The Blair Witch Project, I probably only glimpsed a little bit through my hands. The ending of this gave me chills. This was very well done and I completely agree with the ending comment. Fellow humans can be scarier than any monster.

Oh dear. Poor Sam. This has such a light and playful start that makes the dark twist all the more powerful.
