IAIN KELLY

VIEW ASKEW

‘He’s very proud of it,’ Agnes looked out the kitchen window, sipping from her G & T.

Her friend, Winnie, peered out alongside her.

There were a series of bumps and bangs from the skewed wooden shed, before Archie emerged from the door.

‘At least it’s kept him occupied for the summer.’ Winnie commented. ‘It’s very unique.’

Archie threw excess wood and tools in a heap outside the shed and stood looking at his creation.

Not bad at all, he thought, for a first attempt. The angled walls, the imbalanced roof, the squint window, they all added to the character.

Now he had his own space, somewhere to escape to when Winnie came round for afternoon drinks with Agnes. A lick of paint, a bit of furniture, he could retire to the shed and watch the game on the portable TV with a cold beer.

A squirrel scurried up the tree next to the shed and hopped onto the slanted roof.

Archie heard the ominous creak.

After the dust settled, Agnes poured Winnie a top up. They watched Archie pick himself up and dust himself off, before charging after the small squirrel, profanity turning the air blue.

A very chuckle-worthy take Iain. I’m guessing Archie is Frank Spencer’s Scottish cousin?

hahaha. I enjoy your Agnes and Archie stories. Never a dull moment with those two. I don’t who I feel more sorry for–Archie or the squirrel if he catches it. Good one, Iain 🙂

Iain, my first though when I posted the photo was, what a lovely she-shed it would make. I guess we all want a place to call our own. I just know I won’t let Archie build mine . Enjoyed your take on the prompt.

This slanted structure could not take a squirrel’s weight and came crumbling down? Well! this may keep him busy for several summers. A very unique take on the prompt.
