The Review:
‘Veteran’ picks up a few months after the events of book one in the trilogy ‘Runaway’. Although there are some overlapping mentions from the previous book, and it’s better to read them in order, ‘Veteran’ also stands alone as a great detective story on it’s own. Jordan and Connors are back, along with other characters, and the author develops them further – it’s good to see the characters in different situations and facing different pressures and challenges. Jordan is the stand out again – a no nonsense heroine it’s easy to cheer on. Issues of political intrigue and corruption join the established theme of social injustice, layered over a good old detective story with enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged.
Summary:
A well-written sequel that works as both a good crime read and a comment on social injustice.
