A PIZZ A’ NONSENSE

‘Looks more like a wedding cake about to fall over than a pizza.’

‘A pizza?’

‘The Leaning Tower of Pizza.’

‘No, it’s Pisa.’

‘That’s what I said, Pizza. Anyway, don’t worry about the photo, I can straighten that up in Photoshop.’

‘No, it’s meant to lean over like that.’

‘That’s ridiculous, who built that?’

‘It wasn’t built to do that, but now it’s famous because it does do that.’

‘Why don’t they fix it?’

‘Then it wouldn’t be the Leaning Tower of Pisa.’

‘Pizza?’

‘I told you, it’s Pisa.’

‘No, I mean do you fancy some pizza for lunch. There’s a little cafรฉ over the piazza there, looks lovely.’

Today’s photo brought back fond memories of a day in Pisa 13 years ago, and a pizza in the shadow of the Leaning Tower.

Written for Friday Fictioneers hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields (more detailsย HERE). The idea is to write a short story of 100 words based on the photo prompt (above).

This is great fun, Iain. I was going with a leaning tower of pizzas, but then I saw yours and changed my mind and took inspiration from your photo instead!

Btw, the highlight of my visit was a trip to the amazing Riverside Museum and tall ship!

You must have seen the BBC building across the river then, my work home for many years, and I’ve now moved a couple of office buildings along to a new job. If I’d known I’d have waved out the window to you! It is a great museum, a frim favourite with my kids too.

Ah, the mathematics of this…. great story. It I ever did manage to get the courage to venture outside of my country in this day and age, this is one of those places I’d like to see.

It is funny to think how almost no one would know about that tower if it had a stable base. It’s nice and all, but there aren’t a lot of people who would travel from all over the world to see it if it were upright. And certainly not millions of pictures of people holding it up or knocking it down from perspective.

Hope you’re having a great day! My latest blog post has my theme for the April #AtoZChallenge (I’m writing speculative fiction and looking for prompts).
At Operation Awesome we have the #PassOrPages query contest going on (friends or enemies to lovers Romance).

It would still be a lovely tower, but just ‘another’ tower!
Not sure if I’m going to make it onto A-Z this year between a new job and proof reading new book that’s due out in the summer, the time has got away from me to get anything prepared. Will still pop by to see what others are up to though, always fun to read ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Iain,
I loved reading this with the play on words and associated confusion. It convinced me to stop trying to push through the tiredness of an earlier than usual start, and have a nap I must’ve falen into a deep sleep, and it was a good move except for trying to get my hours into a more regular pattern.
This morning I went to a novel writing workshop with author Graeme Simsion who wrote “The Rosie Project” and associated series. He writes to a scriptwriting structural formula and I’ve been to a writing workshop before where the writer had used that and had gone very well.
You’ve put out a couple of novels but Graeme’s Simsion’s book about writing novels is not unsurprisingly called “The Novel Project”.
    Anyway, I’d better head off.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

You’re welcome, Iain. Congratulations on the next book out. I am yet yo get the first one out, although I did self-publish an anthology of poetry back at uni. Self-publishing wasn’t quite so glam back then. I went to a local printing place who basically photocopied it. It did get me a solo reading at the Shakespeare Bookshop in Paris, which is currently the pinnacle of my success.
It’s been a long time in between drinks.
Hope you have a great week.
        Best wishes,
        Rowena
