‘It probably was a forest around here at some point.’
‘Not quite what ‘rewilding’ means, is it?’
‘Looks nice though.’
They walked on, not looking back. They didn’t see the slight ripple as the breeze washed over the painted leaves and the feathers on the flying geese.
The ripple turned into a wave as bricks crumbled away from the side of the building. Tree trunks and branches burst through. The geese honked and flapped their wings, sending debris to the pavement below. The pavement itself ruptured as grass shoots exploded through.
The painter smiled. His rewilding project had begun.
