A warm fireplace, some mindless doodling, and most importantly, some chocolate.
There were other things he could be doing. Around the edges awaited distractions – work emails, house stuff, paperwork – but nothing that urged immediate attention.
Today it was enough to just sit and enjoy what he had, listening to the kids playing outside and his wife busy in the kitchen preparing dinner. There was nothing more he needed.
Tomorrow would be different. The kids would be back at school, he would be back at work, life would intrude once more.
But not today.
