BOLT FROM THE BLUE

‘It’s hardly a bolt from the blue. More like a threatening grey sky and several storm warnings.’

‘Oh sure, with hindsight it’s all so easy.’

She’s right of course. I should’ve seen it coming. The signs were there. Still, I never thought he would leave me like this, I am his wife after all. Just up and gone. Hopefully he’ll be happy now, with his new lover. I hear he’s ten years younger.

‘So what are you going to do now?’

That’s an easy one to answer. Same as I did before. Crack open a bottle and live off his money just the same.

  2. Change can be invigorating. For both sides in the situation. I’d get through that money as fast as I could though…

  5. I had to read yours immediately, Iain, because we shared a title. Now it seems like we almost shared a storyline too, although I don’t think my character is as sanguine as yours! Great stuff, I’m glad you left her happy

  6. This would definitely be a relationship status on facebook of “it’s complicated.” Feels ugly and sad from every angle ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  9. โ€œTheyโ€ say there are always signs before the storm hits but itโ€™s clear that we only ever see what we want to see. Good tale.

  10. For some the answer always seems to be more caffeine, while for others it’s more champagne. There’s something particularly heartbreaking about this character who seems to totally miss the point of relationships, connection, love and being loved and that money is enough. That is particularly sad.
    Best wishes,

  15. Well she has it all planned out I guess. Ouch, poor thing. Shame to dwell in the past though.

  16. She’s not too distressed then? She should do well. Or is she just covering up? I like a little ambiguity in an ending.
