WHAT DEFINES SUCCESS FOR AUTHORS?

The publisher of my last three novels – The Barra Boy, All We Cannot Leave Behind and Full Sun – has refreshed and relaunched their website.

As part of the process The Book Guild asked me to contribute an Author Case Study article, to go under the banner of ‘Author Success Stories’ – which I was of course delighted to do. You can read my article on the Book Guild website HERE.

This, of course, does give me pause to consider what makes a success story when it comes to writing? Is it completing a novel, any novel? Is it positive reviews? Sales figures, market reach, signing with an agent or getting that elusive traditional publishing deal?

Every writer will have their own idea of what success looks like to them. I have achieved more than I thought I ever would through writing – what’s nice about this, is that someone else has judged my efforts a success too!
