IAIN KELLY

GLISTENING WAVES

‘You never listen.’

Glisten. The sun dancing on the water.

‘You’re never there.’

Dare. The cold water round his ankles.

‘I’ve been having an affair.’

Stare. A line of rocks breaking the water in the distance.

‘The children will stay with me.’

Free. His body weightless in the water.

‘I want you out.’

Doubt. Arms and legs treading, tired.

‘It’s over.’

Drove her away. His head slips under the waves.

Listen, glisten.

The sun dancing on the empty water.

Thank you Roberta, something about that lonely figure by the sea seems to be inspiring some sad reflection this week.

Cleverly and very effectively done, Iain. The assonance seems to catch the heartache.

It is really interesting how pictures can bring out so many different thoughts. I love using them for stories, for they do inspire.

A poignant piece indeed, and beautifully written Iain. Not your usual style and all the more refreshing for being so.
