RED SKY

I had a red sky behind me. The sun dipping away, ending another day. A good day, a better day. Bridges had been built, past mistakes put aside.

I got back to my apartment and sat in the darkness. Tomorrow he would return and we would try again. He had forgiven me, again. I had promised it wouldn’t happen again, again.

Looking at the fire in the sky, I could feel the devil rising once more. The fire of desire, passion, deceit.

He would come back and I would want more. The red sky flickered, a reflection in my devious eyes.

  1. Oh my, those devious eyes. Bridges, sunsets, passion, and deceit. A potent combo. Great story, Iain 🙂

  3. Dear Iain,

Not exactly a match made in heaven. Sounds like the prelude to a tumultuous romance. Or maybe something more…;) Nicely written.

    Shalom,

PS I just downloaded the Kindle version of The Barra Boy. I’m looking forward to the read.

  4. Yikes. A chilling tale that won’t end in happily-ever-after! Excellent little snippet of a much larger tale.

  5. What a character in so few words. And a great atmosphere of daring and who knows how it’ll end.

  6. Sounds like a vicious cycle endured (enjoyed?) by both. When will it end, and how?
    Very intriguing!

    1. A good thought – this is something they both hate and enjoy at the same time. Thanks Liz

  7. Some like to live on the edge of danger – but that does not bode well for the “non-afflicted” one.
I do have to finish the trilogy though Barra Boy intrigues me…

    1. Thanks Dale, I’m guessing a bit, but I think Barra Boy would be more to your taste – though obviously I hope you read them all 😉

  9. “The fire of desire” is quite apt. I see a road to Hell paved with promises. Fun story, Iain.

  10. Your tale took a sinister turn, an empty promise? Intriguing.

I love this… the red sky, the unquenchable desire leading to heartache time and time again. It’s a short character piece but it says so much.

  14. I read this as a man with an addiction. Whatever that addiction may be, it doesn’t look like it will go well.
