IAIN KELLY

REVENGE

Looking down on the busy street below, he watched the tourists gather under the cafΓ© umbrellas.

He resented their presence – the noise, the litter – but most of all their happiness. Happiness had always been denied to him, stuck in his small corner room.

Today was the day he would gain his revenge against the world.

He stood at the window, armed and ready. He opened it a fraction, just enough to make his aim sure and true. Then he squeezed the trigger.

The screams and squeals filled him with joy as the people below ran to escape the water jet that soaked them from above.

Written for Friday Fictioneers hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields (more detailsΒ HERE). The idea is to write a short story of 100 words based on the photo prompt (above).

To read more stories of 100 words based on this week’s prompt, visit HERE.

From this Friday, for one week, my first three novels will be available on Amazon Kindle for just 99p each in the UK, and in the US ‘State of Denial’ and ‘State of War’ will be only $0.99 each. I hope some of you get a chance to check them out if you enjoy a good political thriller, mystery and intrigue!

The State Trilogy and The Barra Boy available now.

All We Cannot Leave Behind coming February 2024.

Brilliant! Reminds me of the time we collected for our boss’s birthday and bought him a bubble gun. He had great fun doing just this from the upstairs window of the office.

Thank goodness it’s only a water jet. You had me going there, but now I’m thinking it’s a child who has been cruelly trapped in his bedroom for an hour without electronics!

Very clever, I went on a roller coaster of emotions, imagined the worst which is all too much the reality these day in the USA, exhaled at the twist at the end. Masterful.
