WOMAN ‘PROVES’ NESSIE EXISTS

“Man ‘Definitely’ Saw Aliens!”

“Doctor ‘Heals’ With Touch Alone!”

“Scientists ‘Travel’ Back In Time!”

The Editor-in-Chief threw the papers across the room as he spat out each headline. “It would be nice, just once, to have a front page that was genuine and didn’t require quotation marks for legal reasons.”

“Remember we did try that, sir,” Sub Editor Mulvey mumbled, “and we ended up being sued.”

The Editor-in-Chief shrugged, “How was I to know you couldn’t prove the President was actually ‘Making America Great Again!’” He sat back down behind his desk. “Okay, what have we got for tomorrow?”

Mulvey glanced at his notepad nervously. “Politicians Say Brexit A ‘Really Good Idea!’”

“Not Brexit again,” the Chief groaned.

“Man Claims Climate Change ‘Not Real!’”

A shake of the head.

”Journalism Plumbs New Depths Of Sensationalism To Boost Sales and Further Their Owners Political Agendas!’ – there’s no quotation marks in that one, Chief.”

“Get Out!”

  2. That last headline is definitely a statement of fact. Now, IF an honest article followed, it could be a real exposรฉ.

    1. We all know it’s what happens, it’s amazing that the newspapers carry on pretending that it isn’t!

  12. Ha ha ha, they wouldn’t know the truth if it hit them on the head! My story, btw, could be a spiritual sequel to yours ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Haha! True, all true! Sometimes I’m ashamed of our press- but no more ashamed than I am of the public who lap up each sensationalist, xenophobic statement. Nicely done Iain.
Just to let you know, I finally left my review for Justified State on Amazon – I finished the book some while ago, just hadn’t got round to reviewing it, sorry.
It was a great read, very inventive, the world you created disturbingly close to our own. Just a great achievement. Any more planned for Danny in the future?

    1. Thank you so much Lynn, I will check out the review! So pleased you enjoyed it, and I do have an idea for a sequel so I think I will start that in the new year. Finishing off a completely different novel for NaNoWriMo at the moment, but Danny will return!

      2. My pleasure Iain and I’m really glad you have an idea for a sequel. You’ve set up such a strong world with well defined characters, it would be a shame to lose track of them now.
