ESCAPE HATCH

He jumped from the fourth floor.

This was exactly why he had built the escape hatch in wall of the office for. He crossed his arms across his chest and slid out feet first, speeding downwards, bracing for the impact against the cushioned platform on the ground.

He bolted across the street, sprinting for safety. Cars screeched and skidded to avoid the hurtling figure.

He dared to glance back and saw her at the window, holding her coffee, gaping after him. She shouted: ‘If you miss this strategy meeting, you’ll never work here again!’

Perfect. Exactly the solution he was hoping for.

  1. That’s a lot of trouble to quit a job and boss 🙂

  2. I liked the trouble he went to in order to get the sack. Ingenious. Though, he could just as easily have spat in her coffee

  3. Dear Iain,

That’s exactly how I felt the day I left my job for the last time. Free at last! Good one.

  9. Funny. I thought he was leaving a one nightstand. Also tricky, I have to assume.

  11. Iain, please don’t show my husband this story. He’s had a gutful of all that goes on at the university and being a network engineer, I could see him and his entire team including his immediate boss building something like this as a parting gesture to the CIO.
    Great and dramatic story
    Best wishes,

    1. Thanks Rowena, yep, I was imagining something similar for my own work situation at the moment. Fortunately in a couple of weeks I finish one job and move on to the next, which will hopefully be an improvement.

  13. Oh, Iain, I can very much, at least metaphorically, relate to this. Given the “great resignation,” I am not alone. Well done escape story. 🙂
